Welcome to Sabra Arabians - Crabbet Arabians Stud Site.
Home of National Champion Arabian Futurity stallion Sabra Jupiter
(1996 Sabra Kfir x Rash Idyll)
The oldest Arabians breeding programme in Israel, Sabra Arabians is one of the very few world-wide who breed purely with old Crabbet blood lines. These Arabians are horses with refined heads, high spirits, elegant action, and most notably when compared to other Arabs, scope and substance. The Crabbet horse is maintained not only for breeding but also makes an excellent riding horse. Sabra Arabians have consistently won first prize in halter, trekking, eventing, vaulting and dressage. Our exported horses have won abroad - most notably German Champion Junior Arabian Mare, Sabra Liora (1986 Sylvan Domino x Solvag). Many others have gone to be part of other breeding programmes around the world.
The stud is run passionately by its founder Mr. Yftah Levron who has been breeding Arabians for over 30 years and is an adviser to many other breeders in Israel. We have 26 mares and 8 stallions of which four: -Sabra Jupiter (1997 Sabra Kfir x Rash Idyll), Sabra Soly Flame (1992 Silver Ulysses x Solvag), Triple Crown (1987 Indian Diadem X Bright Reflection) and Shatir (1973 Hanif x Sherilla) have been Israeli National Arabian Champions.
Surrounded by orange groves and 5 miles from the Mediterranean sea, the stud is placed in Kibbutz Givat Chaim Ichud in the middle of the Sharon region, lying between Tel-Aviv and Haifa. The fertile land produces superb grass which our horses thrive on. Sabra Arabians has a spacious showing arena and very good hospitality facilities. We welcome guests from all over the world and are always happy to show our horses. We arrange trekking trips, riding pure bred Arabians around the Holy Land and also offer boarding at the stud.
Our blood stock originated from the British Arabians stud farm that was established in Palestine during the 1920s by Lord Cameron, a personal friend of Lady Wentworth. Most of the stock at that stud was bought direct from Crabbet, most notably Royal Glitter (Grand Royal x Silver Gilt) whose name can be seen in the pedigree of some of our best horses to this day. The British stud suffered greatly from the 1948 war of independence at the end of the British mandate in Palestine but some of the horses survived in a new, Israeli, government-owned, breeding programme that was established in the 1950s at the same site at Acre.
With the closing of the Crabbet stud in England, that first Arabian stud in Israel received some great Arabians including Indianora (Indian King x Nerinora) and Sugar Plum Fairy (Blue Domino x Algoletta) who, again can be found in some best Sabra Arabians pedigrees to this day.
As a teenager during the late 1950s, Mr Levron looked after these horses as an apprentice to the stud manager Mr Adam Gorge - an immigrant who, before arriving in Israel, had bred horses in Hungary. Struggling with the emergence of the car and the tractor, the state owned horse breeding stud had finally to close. Mr Levron convinced his Kibbutz to buy all the pure Crabbet blood stock and Sabra Arabians was established.
During the 1970s and 1980s we have occasionally and carefully imported more horses from other breeders. Most notably is our, twice Israel National Champion mare, Solvage (1983 Bravado x Amoretre) who was bought as a six month old foal from Fiona Murrey of Penswick Arabians in England, and who can now be found in almost every Sabra Arabians pedigree. Solvage is still happily producing a beautiful foal every year.
Parallel to our breeding programme we run a competitive riding stable. Our pure Arabians are taking part and often winning in national competitions in Dressage and other events. Our vaulting team is the Israeli champion team and our horses have also won many endurance races in the Mediterranean desert.
We are very proud of our Arabians, all of pure Crabbet blood lines, which we breed for good stance, good action, great beauty and with a particular focus on competitive sport.
